Injured Combat Dog Receives Purple Heart

December 11, 2015

rocky1 Rocky and his handler were both injured by an explosive attack in Afghanistan earlier this month, and both are now receiving treatment and recovering at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. Happily, the two have been able to share a room as their wounds heal. Specialist Brown and his dog Rocky were sweeping a structure when the bomb went off. They were immediately transported out of the country for treatment. Sherry Sexton a soldier from the 379 EAES (Aeromedical Evacuation Squadron), reported that she and her fellow soldiers were concerned about the duo and are glad to see that they are on the road to recovery. “I had Rocky’s injured handler medicated to rest on the flight, and our aeromedical Evac took turns lovin on Rocky,” said Sexton. “It just hurts our hearts when our working fur babies are injured. They can’t talk to us and tell us what to do for them so we do the medical stuff – but we shower them with hugs and pets.” The photo of Rocky recovering while wearing his Purple Heart medal has gone viral, and the pair are receiving fain mail from well-wishers across the country. rocky2 Source: 89th Military Police Brigadeon Facebook
